In 2016, Box Greens was just a fantasy for two sisters who had reached a crossroads in their lives; Lisa was recovering from a life-threatening cancer diagnosis; and Cheryl, a serial entrepreneur had just exited her previous endeavor. While Lisa was recovering from surgeries and a brutal chemotherapy experience, Cheryl was looking towards a brighter future with her sister by researching, designing, plotting, and planning what would eventually become Box Greens.
Co-Founders Cheryl Arnold and Lisa Merkle were born and raised in Miami, FL. Both attended Palmetto High School and The University of Florida. The sisters each have a dynamic professional history; Cheryl successfully developed a nationally recognized online marketing platform and had launched, built, and successfully exited the organic produce delivery service; Endlessly Organic. Lisa spent 20 years in NYC where she worked as Studio Manager with Photographer Bruce Weber, and then later established a reputable experiential event production studio focused on the themes of health and wellbeing.
Box Greens is an indoor farm located in Little Haiti, Miami utilizing technology and vertical space to grow a wide variety of lettuces, herbs, and microgreens on a compact footprint. Delicate flavors are made possible by the precise growing climate. The location, central to Greater Miami and Miami Beach means local lettuce lovers enjoy Box Greens within hours of harvest. Fresh from the Farm to your favorite restaurant, or through a produce subscription.
The business is a platform to nourish and educate their community on the relationship between our food system and the climate crisis, issues of food access, and resiliency. Founded in 2018, the sisters realized the opportunity to bring indoor farming to Miami with the ability to grow healthy food in community, with community, and for community.
