Growing and harvesting farm fresh greens in the Little Haiti neighborhood of  Miami and distributing locally throughout South Florida. We utilize sustainable and environmentally friendly tech farming practices to provide a superior product 365 days a year: pesticide & herbicide free, non-GMO with incredible taste and nutrition.

We are a farm in a box. Actually, a shipping container. We’ve taken used shipping containers and repurposed them into indoor, hydroponic farms. Each container is outfitted with horizontal racks stacked vertically, LED lighting, two HVAC systems and an irrigation system. We use tech platforms to monitor our systems and emerging data to formulate the environment - producing a superior product. Each container produces over 800 heads of lettuce a week on a 320 square ft. footprint. This is the equivalent of 1 to 2 acres of traditional farmland.

Hydroponic Farming refers to the process of growing plants without dirt, delivering nutrients through an irrigation system. The water in each container is recycled purified using a duel reverse osmosis machine. Our box farms use 90% less water than traditional farming. Box Greens are indoor farms so there is no need to use pesticides or herbicides. Without dirt we are susceptible to fewer pathogens found in the field and deliver a clean product, made convenient for foodservice.

Eating more local food reduces CO2 emissions by reducing food miles (the distance food travels from farm to consumer). The average piece of produce in the U.S. travels 1,500 miles. Growing and distributing where we live and eat is better for the environment and our health. Local foods often retain more nutrients and are allowed to ripen naturally, while food that travels long distances is often picked before it’s ripe. Our produce goes from harvest to table so there is no need to use ethylene gas or artificial preservatives to help it survive a long commute.

Our food system is broken. The current status of growing and transporting food has a devastating effect on our environment. Forty percent of all food is wasted and our food insecure neighbors are additionally burdened without access to real fresh food. Box Greens is a platform to inspire, educate and activate our community. Together, we are transforming the food system.

The Box Greens farm is a hub for community. We offer field trips and adult education on site. And, it’s all fun and delicious because that is what authentic nourishment is all about. We’ve partnered with The CLEO Institute and Health in the Hood to address our passion points - environment and accessibility. We have classes for aspiring home farmers and guest chefs rolling through for urban farm to table dinners Box Greens style.
